Special information about our swords / sword types

Time and again we receive enquiries from customers as to the kind of swords we supply. The following section will give you an overview of the 4 general types of swords that we sell.

1. Wooden swords: These swords are manufactured for training purposes and can be used in contact sport without breaking or incurring damage. These swords are freely available to persons under the age of 18.

2. Handmade swords (CAS Iberia, Paul Chen, Hanwei, WKC, Thaitsuki, Cold Steel, Dynasty Forge, Swords and more): These samurai swords are handmade and meet the high standards required by the modern art of sword production. The steel used for these swords is of the best quality and in certain exclusive cases (from € 1000 onwards) has even been folded, which further increases the value of the sword. These swords are manufactured for training purposes and can also be used for contact sports (Tameshigeri). The strength of the blade can, for example, be tested by slicing a wet rice sack. Should the swords be misused however, they will incur damage and may even break. As such we suggest that customers only use these swords under the supervision of an experienced Budoka.

3. Decorative swords: Approximately 90% of the swords in our product pallet are decorative swords. The blades of the swords are only attached to the their handle and would thus not withstand blade on blade contact. The steel used in their manufacture is 420/440 rust resistant stainless steel. Some of these swords are sharp and others blunt. The reason for this discrepancy is that the swords are manufactured by different producers and that a sharp blade is in not a requirement for a decorative sword. Should you have any questions regarding a specific sword please send an email to info(at)swords-and-more.com.These swords should only be used as decoration. Incorrect usage will merely cause damage to the blade, and contact with hard objects may even result in breakage.

4. Battle Ready Swords (functional): See also "More information..." further below. These swords are also handmade and are produced for Battle Ready action and theatre presentation. The steel used in their production is mostly spring steel, which gives the blades a certain flexibility and strength. The swords often have a blunt blade of 4 or more millimetres. You will find these swords in medieval exhibitions and fairs. We have also supplied various film sets with these swords.
